Il est situ\u00e9 sur le territoire des communes de Ruynes-en-Margeride et Val d&rsquo;Arcomie dans le d\u00e9partement du Cantal en r\u00e9gion Auvergne-Rh\u00f4ne-Alpes.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nCe viaduc est le projet de l&rsquo;ing\u00e9nieur des ponts et chauss\u00e9es L\u00e9on Boyer qui en confie la finalisation et la r\u00e9alisation \u00e0 Gustave Eiffel et sa soci\u00e9t\u00e9. Le chantier de sa construction ouvert en janvier 1880 se termine en septembre 1884 et sa mise en service est effectu\u00e9e en 1888 par la Compagnie des chemins de fer du Midi et du Canal lat\u00e9ral \u00e0 la Garonne concessionnaire de la ligne. Cet ambitieux ouvrage m\u00e9tallique, long de 565 m, qui culmine \u00e0 122 m au-dessus de la rivi\u00e8re, est alors \u00ab\u00a0le plus haut viaduc du monde\u00a0\u00bb jusqu&rsquo;en 1886, son arche \u00e9tait \u00e9galement celle ayant la plus grande port\u00e9e au monde.<br \/>\n&nbsp;<br \/>\nNous vous proposons quelques vues capt\u00e9es le 19 novembre \u00e0 l&rsquo;occasion du passage du train de fret Arcelor Mittal transportant des \u00ab\u00a0coils\u00a0\u00bb, des bobines d&rsquo;acier lamin\u00e9es, destin\u00e9es \u00e0 l&rsquo;usine de Saint-Ch\u00e9ly d&rsquo;Apcher et \u00e0 l&rsquo;occasion du passage deux heures plus tard dans l&rsquo;autre sens du train Intercit\u00e9s B\u00e9ziers Neussargues Clermont-Ferrand r\u00e9cemment remis sur les rails apr\u00e8s des mois de travaux sur la ligne.
